Project information

Project Synopsis

Several endangered animal species like the little blue penguin, yellow-eyed penguin, and many others are at a risk from interaction with the public. People tend to pick the little penguins or get close to them for taking pictures and selfies, which might cause damage to the penguin's feathers and could also be harmful to the public. People's obsession with taking pictures with animals, documenting every detail, and posting it on social media sometimes disturb the animal's habitat. Although we are happy that New Zealand's flora and fauna, and conservation is popular among the public, and that the public has a way of showing affection towards the wildlife, we just want them to do it in a way that does not do any damage. This will be through our augmented 3D POC application: 'Click The Wild Blink'.

The main goal of this project is to produce a produce a user-friendly POC mobile application, which people will be able to use their smartphone camera to interact with the virtual 3D animal models; the application could be used at any location, whether it be someone's backyard or even a national park. The application's objective is to make a memorable experience for people by capturing their photo with animals and educating them about wildlife conservation through information about habitat, breeding and some fun facts while using the application through a pop-up.
